Antipasti Platter recipe

Platters are super popular in Italy as a starter - they are great for sharing, and they also let you have a little taste of everything, which is great for people who are new to Italian food. The antipasti meat and cheese platter is probably the most popular - here are a few of our favourite variations.


  • Prosciutto ham
  • Bresaola (cured beef)
  • Salami
  • Buffalo mozzarella
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Strachinno (soft cow's cheese with no rind)
  • Goat's cheese
  • Often served with:
  • Olives
  • Roasted peppers
  • Artichokes
  • Sun-dried tomatoes
  • Basil leaves
  • Ciabatta


  1. To serve, choose your favourite meats and cheeses. With the meats, take them from the packet and layer them on a wooden board, letting them fall into place prettily.

  2. If serving mozzarella, slice fairly thinly and layer onto the board. If serving a soft cheese, spoon it into a lettuce leaf to keep it separate from everything else. If serving a hard cheese, serve with a cheese knife or shave thinly onto the cutting board.

  3. If serving any veggies, layer them in and around the meats and cheese. To finish, sprinkle the platter with basil leaves. Serve the platter ingredients on top of sliced toasted ciabatta.

With an antipasti platter you don't need to serve olive oil and vinegar, although you can if you like - generally, you need to choose good, Italian ingredients and let them speak for themselves. This is all about sharing and enjoying the food with your friends and family.
