BBQ Ribs recipe

Preparation Time: 10 hours | Cooking Time: 20 minutes

These sticky and tender BBQ ribs are perfect serving up at your next BBQ and they are super simple to make. Serve with a cool refreshing dip or with some soft and squishy potato wedges.


  • 5lb pork spare ribs, cut into 3 pieces
  • 1 onion
  • 100g butter
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 110ml white vinegar
  • 225ml water
  • 225ml ketchup
  • 225ml BBQ sauce
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper
  • 50g brown sugar


  1. Place ribs in a large saucepan. Cover with salted water, bring to the boil then reduce the heat to a low simmer. Cook for 1 hour then drain.

  2. Meanwhile, finely dice the onion and mince the garlic cloves. Melt the butter in a frying pan and add the onion. Fry until soft and golden, then add the garlic. Fry for a few minutes, then remove from the heat.

  3. Combine vinegar, water, ketchup, BBQ sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar and onion and butter mixture in a blender. Whiz until smooth. Place into a saucepan, season to taste with salt and pepper and bring to the boil. Remove from the heat.

  4. Place ribs into a dish and cover with the BBQ sauce. Mix to combine, then cover and place in the fridge overnight. Before you come to BBQ the ribs, take them out of the fridge for at least an hour.

  5. Cook ribs on a preheated BBQ for 10-20 minutes until golden and crisp, basting frequently with the BBQ sauce.

If you like, make more of the BBQ sauce to serve alongside the ribs once they're cooked. Recipe serves 10.
