In this easy recipe, broccoli is tossed with sauteed onions, garlic, smoked bacon and a dash of Worcestershire sauce to create a flavourful side dish that really livens up a humble head of broccoli.
- 1 large head broccoli
- 1 large onion
- 150g streaky smoked bacon
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp. olive oil
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce or more to taste
Chop the broccoli into florets, then finely dice the onion and mince the garlic cloves.
Bring a pot of salted water to the boil then drop in the broccoli. Boil for 3-4 minutes or until tender, then drain and rinse under cold running water.
Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add the onions and bacon and fry together gently for around 10 minutes, adding the garlic after 5 minutes. Cook until the onions are soft and the bacon crisp.
Add the broccoli, toss to coat in the oil then cook for a minute or two or until heated through. Season and then add the Worcestershire sauce to taste.
