A portable twist on the classic crumble, in this recipe, cherries are sandwiched between two layers of delicious crumble, made with oats and dark brown sugar for a rich and chewy texture. Tinned cherry fruit filling means that this dish is super cheap, too.
- 1 1/2 tins (400g) cherry fruit filling (or cherry compote, or cherry jam if you have it, 600g in total)
- 200g dark brown soft sugar
- 125g plain flour
- 115g butter
- 80g plain porridge oats
- Pinch of cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 190C.
In a bowl, rub the butter into the flour until the mix resembles small breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar, oats and cinnamon.
Press half of the crumble mix into a baking tin, pressing down firmly so that the crumble is slightly compacted. Spread over the cherry fruit filling.
Sprinkle the rest of the crumble mix on top then put the crumble into the oven. Bake for 40 minutes or until the topping is golden. Leave to cool slightly, then slice into squares to serve.
