Chinese Style Cabbage Salad recipe

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

A crisp, refreshing salad made with cabbage, spring onions and carrots, tossed with a savoury sweet dressing made with soy sauce, rice vinegar and lime juice. Spiky, sour and savoury, this cabbage salad is a fabulously healthy accompaniment to any dish.


  • 1 green cabbage
  • 2 carrots
  • Small bunch spring onions
  • Small handful freshly chopped coriander
  • 4 tbsp. lime juice
  • 2 tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp. light soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp. rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. caster sugar
  • Black pepper to taste


  1. Finely shred the cabbage and remove the core. Thinly slice the carrots into matchsticks. Thinly slice the spring onions on the diagonal.

  2. Whisk together the lime juice, oil, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar and black pepper to taste. Pour over the ingredients and toss to coat. Sprinkle over the coriander

For a little extra crunch with an Oriental twist, try adding some water chestnuts to the salad. Recipe serves 4-6.
