Chinese Plum Sauce recipe

Preparation Time: 10 minutes | Cooking Time: 5 minutes

This is a delicious sauce for serving with dim sum and it works particularly well with crispy duck. It keeps well in the fridge, too. Serve it at room temperature.


  • 340g smooth plum jam
  • 2 tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. finely diced onion
  • 1 tsp. dried chillies
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger


  1. Mince the garlic clove. Combine the plum jam, vinegar, brown sugar, onion, chillies, garlic and ginger in a saucepan. Stir well.

  2. Bring to the boil, stirring constantly, then remove from the heat. Pour into a bowl and leave to cool before serving.

For a twist on the sauce, try using cherry jam. Recipe serves 6.
