Chinese Roast Duck Legs recipe

Preparation Time: 24 hours | Cooking Time: 2 hours

Salty, sweety, savoury and meaty, this delicious duck dish is super simple to prepare. Duck legs are marinated for a day, then baked until crisp, golden and tender. Serve with a crisp salad.

  • 4 duck legs
  • 4 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 tbsp. whole star anise pods
  • 1/2 stick cinnamon

  1. Place the duck legs in a bag. Sprinkle with Chinese five-spice, star anise, cinnamon, soy sauce and the olive oil. Massage the duck to disperse all the flavours. Seal and leave in the fridge for 1 day.

  2. Remove the duck from the marinade, place into a baking tray and let it come to room temperature. Preheat oven to 170C and bake for 1 1/2 - 2 hours or until the meat falls off of the bone.

If you like, serve the duck with some hoisin sauce or a simple soy and chilli dip. Recipe serves 4.
