Robust and rather yummy, chocolate and vanilla marble cake is a classic favourite of many. Slice and serve with a little jam, or serve warm from the oven with some custard. Yum!
- 225g butter
- 225g caster sugar
- 225g self-raising flour
- 4 eggs
- 3 tbsp. milk
- 2 tbsp. cocoa powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Grease and line a 23cm cake tin. Preheat the oven to 160C.
Beat together the butter and sugar using a wooden spoon until light, pale and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, waiting until each egg is combined before adding the next.
Sift in the flour and mix until combined, then stir in the milk. Divide the mix between two bowls. Add vanilla to one and cocoa powder to the other. Stir to combine.
Make the cake by alternately spooning the mixes into the prepared cake tin. Tap the tin on the worksurface to get rid of air bubbles. Bake in the oven for 45-55 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean.
