Chocolate Chip Banana Cake recipe

This sweet, gooey chocolate chip banana cake is perfect for kids and adults alike. It's jam-packed with chocolate chips and is best served warm from the oven with a good dollop of vanilla ice cream.


  • 175g butter
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 145g dark brown sugar
  • 175g milk chocolate chips
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 250g mashed banana flesh
  • 225g plain flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt


  1. Preheat oven to 180C and lightly grease a swiss roll tin or tin of similar size, 25cmx40cm.

  2. Beat butter and sugars together until pale and fluffy then beat in the egg. Mash in the banana, then sift in the flour, baking powder and salt and stir to combine. Stir in the vanilla and fold in the chocolate chips. Spoon into the prepared cake tin and bake for 20 minutes.

If you like, for an extra chocolatey pud, melt butter and chocolate together for use as a topping. Recipe serves 8.
