Chocolate Rum Balls recipe

Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Rich, crunchy, creamy and delicious, with just a hint of bite from some rum, these chocolate rum balls are perfect for serving at Christmas.


  • 575g crushed vanilla wafers
  • 75g icing sugar
  • 4 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp. golden syrup
  • 120ml rum
  • 175g chopped pecans
  • Icing sugar


  1. Stir together the vanilla wafers, icing sugar, cocoa powder and nuts. Add the rum and syrup and stir well to combine. Shape the mix into inch-sized balls.

  2. Put the balls onto a tray and leave to chill, then put into an airtight container for a few days. Roll in extra icing sugar before serving.

If you like, use biscuits instead of wafers and peanuts or walnuts instead of pecans. Recipe makes around 40 balls.
