Chocolatey Baked Bananas recipe

Preparation Time: 10 minutes | Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Bananas are slit open, poked with chocolate buttons, then baked in the oven til black in this recipe. They might look a bit funky, but they're totally sweet, squishy and delicious.


  • 4 ripe bananas (with spotty skin)
  • 75g chocolate buttons or chips
  • alternatives:
  • 75g peanut butter
  • 100g mini marshmallows


  1. Preheat the oven to 180C and make a slit in each banana without cutting all the way through - you want to cut through the skin and about 1/3 of the way into the flesh of the banana. Poke the chocolate chips (or peanut butter or marshmallows) into the flesh.

  2. Put the banana, cut side up, on a square of tin foil, then bring the foil up and over the banana and crimp round the top to seal. Pop onto a baking tray and into the oven for 20 minutes or onto a BBQ for 15 minutes.

Serve these bananas hot with vanilla ice cream or a glug of maple syrup if you're feeling particularly sweet-toothed! Recipe serve 4.
