Chocolate Buttercream recipe

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

This thick, fudgy frosting is perfect for chocolate cupcakes or even vanilla cupcakes. It only contains four ingredients and takes all of 2-3 minutes to make - easy!


  • 350g icing sugar
  • 190g butter
  • 4 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp. milk


  1. Beat the butter in a large bowl until softened. Gradually beat in the icing sugar until well combined.

  2. Gradually beat in the cocoa powder, then beat in the milk until the icing is light and fluffy. Use to ice the cupcakes.

You can substitute other flavours for the milk - if you want to make a mocha icing, add 2 tbsp. coffee instead of milk, or add a little vanilla extract or orange extract. Recipe will ice 18 cupcakes.
