Asparagus spears are wrapped in thinly sliced bread spread with a mix of cream cheese and smoked cheese in this recipe, then dipped in butter and baked in the oven until golden and crisp on the outside and tender and creamy on the inside. Yum yum!
- 20 thin slices white bread
- 20 asparagus spears
- 200g cream cheese
- 125g soft smoked cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 200g butter
- 1 egg
Trim the crusts from each slice of bread. Snap the woody ends off of the asparagus. Beat together cream cheese, smoked cheese and egg until creamy. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Spread each bread slice with a thin layer of the cheese mix. Wrap one asparagus spear in each slice of bread and secure with a cocktail stick. Melt butter in a frying pan and dip each bite in butter to coat. Place onto a baking tray and repeat until you've used all of the ingredients. Cover and freeze for 1 hour.
To cook, remove from the freezer and bake for 25-30 minutes in a 200C oven until lightly browned and golden. Chop each asparagus spear into 2-3 to serve.
