Extra Garlicky Sesame Broccoli recipe

This garlicky broccoli dish is cooked with sesame oil, sesame seeds and five garlic cloves to really ramp up the flavour of the humble purple sprouting broccoli. A fantastic side dish that works really well with Asian chicken dishes.


  • 450g purple sprouting broccoli
  • 2 tbsp. veg oil
  • 2 tbsp. toasted sesame oil
  • 5 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp. toasted sesame seeds


  1. Trim the broccoli. Bring a pot of salted water to the boil. Drop in the broccoli and simmer for 2-3 minutes or until tender. Drain well.

  2. Heat the veg oil and sesame oil together in a large frying pan. Add the garlic and fry for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the broccoli and toss in the garlicky oil for 2-3 minutes or until the broccoli is well coated and cooked through.

  3. To serve, sprinkle evenly with the sesame seeds.

For a bit of heat, throw in half a red chilli with the garlic cloves. Recipe serves 2-4 as a side.
