Gooseberry Vodka recipe

Preparation Time: 42 days

This sweet yet sour liquor is particularly good for Christmas celebrations. It takes a while to reach full flavour, but it's well worth it - so get started now!

  • 1 litre vodka
  • 1kg gooseberries
  • 4 tbsp. sugar (or more)

  1. Prick the gooseberries with a fork. Put into a container with the vodka (a resealable glass container is best, if not plastic), in a dark place. Leave for 6 weeks and swirl around in the container every few days.

  2. Add the sugar and swirl around every few days for a further two weeks. Drain the mix through a coffee filter into a clean bottle and seal. Leave in a cool cupboard for 4 months to a year, giving the bottle a good shake before serving.

Serve the drink over ice, or mixed into cocktails with some fruit juice. Recipe makes approximately 1.2 litres of liquor.
