Greek Lamb and Runner Beans recipe

Preparation Time: 20 minutes | Cooking Time: 90 minutes

These easy peasy lamb recipe uses lamb stewing meat, passata, freshly chopped mint leaves, green beans and red onion to create a deliciously hearty stew that's just perfect with some warm crusty bread.


  • 600g lamb stewing meat
  • 600g passata
  • 1kg runner beans, trimmed and sliced
  • 225ml water
  • 1 large red onion
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • Good pinch salt and black pepper
  • Small handful freshly chopped mint leaves


  1. Trim the lamb of fat and sinew and chop into chunks. Finely chop the red onion.

  2. Heat oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Season the lamb chunks and add to the pan with the onion. Cook until well browned. Add the beans, stir and cook until tender, around 10 minutes.

  3. Add the passata water, salt, pepper and mint. Stir well. Cover and simmer for 1 hour or until the meat and beans are tender. If the sauce is too runny, simmer uncovered for half an hour or so.

If you like, throw in a few handfuls of olives in brine. Recipe serves 4.
