Extra-Crumbly Pear and Pecan Crumble recipe

Jazz up the humble crumble and make it into something extra-special and extra-crumbly with this delicious pear and pecan crumble recipe. Pears are packed into a baking dish with caster sugar, then topped with a nutty and oaty crumble.


  • 650g pears
  • 3 tbsp. caster sugar
  • 6 tbsp. water
  • 150g brown sugar
  • 125g chopped walnuts
  • 115g butter, unsalted
  • 75g porridge oats
  • 75g plain flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of nutmeg


  1. Preheat the oven to 180C. Peel, core and slice the pears. Toss with caster sugar and water and put into the bottom of a baking dish.

  2. Mix together the sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a bowl. Rub in the butter using the tips of your fingers until the mix resembles coarse breadcrumbs and then mix in the walnuts. Tip over the pears and pack down with your hands, then bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.

Leave to cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve with warm custard or cool ice cream. Recipe serves 6-8.
