Perfect Creamy Coleslaw recipe

Coleslaw is a traditional side dish, packed with crunch with a creamy dressing that makes it feel luxurious. This coleslaw recipe will fast become your go-to recipe for traditional, creamy coleslaw.


  • 600g white cabbage
  • 1 carrot
  • 1/2 white onion
  • 125g mayonnaise
  • 4 tbsp. buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp. white wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. caster sugar
  • 4 tbsp. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. each salt and black pepper


  1. Finely shred the cabbage. Thinly slice the carrot into matchsticks and thinly slice the onion into half moons. Toss to combine the veggies.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together the mayo, buttermilk, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar, milk, salt and pepper. Pour over the veggies and toss to combine, cover and leave in the fridge for a few hours before serving.

For a flash of colour and for a delicious twist on the traditional coleslaw, try adding some thinly sliced red peppers. Recipe serves 4-6.
