Pears take on a gloriously dark red hue in this deliciously simple recipe for pears poached in red wine. Serve the pears with some of the cooking syrup spooned over, or rustle up a quick dark chocolate sauce for extra richness.
- 4 firm pears
- 75g brown sugar
- 275ml each red wine and water
Slice the pears in half lengthways. Peel and core. Preheat the oven to 180C.
Sprinkle the pears with the sugar. Mix wine and water and pour over the pears. Cover and bake for 50-60 minutes or until the pears are tender.
Carefully lift the pears from the tin and pour the liquid into a pan. Boil the liquid until reduced by half to serve.
