Pork Wontons recipe

Preparation Time: 1 hours | Cooking Time: 10 minutes

These crispy little wontons are perfect for a party - crisp on the outside and meltingly soft in the middle. You can adapt them to your own tastes - for example, you can add chillies, garlic or ginger to the pork filling if you like.

  • 250g minced pork
  • 1/2 220g tin water chestnuts, drained
  • 75g fresh beansprouts
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 30g bamboo shoots
  • 1 bunch spring onions
  • 1 egg
  • 50g pak choi
  • 1 tbsp. Chinese rice wine
  • 60 wonton wrappers
  • 2 litres oil for frying

  1. Finely dice the chestnuts, beansprouts, bamboo shoots, pak choi and spring onions. In a large bowl, combine the pork, chestnuts, beansprouts, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, salt, bamboo shoots, spring onions, egg, pak choi and rice wine. Stir well.

  2. Place a tsp. of the pork filling into the centre of a wonton wrapper. Fold the corners together to make a triangle. Seal the triangle using a dab of water. Bring the corners of the wonton together from the longest edge of the triangle and press together, using a dab of water to seal.

  3. Heat the oil over a medium heat. Add the wontons and fry for 2 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on kitchen paper.

If you like, use chicken mince or turkey mince instead of pork mince. Recipe serves 12.
