Proper Hot Chocolate recipe

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Hot chocolate from a packet can be incredibly disappointing - so here's how to make a proper hot chocolate with chocolate, cream and full fat milk. The flavour is best with dark chocolate, although you can use milk or white.


  • 100g plain dark chocolate
  • 125ml double cream
  • 125ml full fat milk


  1. Break up the chocolate and place into a bowl. In a small saucepan, combine the cream and milk. Heat until it is very nearly simmering - until it is scalded - but not boiling! Take the pan off the heat and pour over the chocolate.

  2. Stir until you have a smooth, creamy chocolate mixture. Pour into 2 mugs to serve and top with whatever you fancy.

You could serve this hot chocolate with whipped cream, marshmallows, cinnamon, digestive biscuits - anything you like! Recipe serves 2.
