Pick up the flavours of the stuffing in this delicious and unique recipe for sprouts. Sprouts are cooked, then turned in a yummy buttery combination of softened onions and fresh sage. The sweet onions and savoury sage are the perfect match to sprouts, making this a wonderful Christmas recipe.
- 400g Brussels sprouts
- 2 medium onions
- 8 fresh sage leaves
- 75g butter
- Black pepper
Finely dice the onions. Heat the butter in a large frying pan until melted and add the onions. Cook on a low heat for around 15 minutes, until softened and lightly golden - don't let the onions brown.
Meanwhile, drop the sprouts into a pot of boiling water and cook for 4 minutes. Drain very thoroughly and add to the pan. Rip the sage up and add most of it to the dish and cook for another minute or two, then season with black pepper to taste and sprinkle with the rest of the sage to serve.
