Smart Crab Cakes recipe

Preparation Time: 30 minutes | Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Crab cakes are so versatile, they're an excellent choice for lunch or dinner - or for dinner parties. Serve them with sweet chilli sauce, a simple butter sauce or as they are with a simple salad dressing.

  • 500g white crab meat
  • 50g mayonnaise
  • 50g panko breadcrumbs
  • Juice of 1 1/2 lemons
  • Handful freshly chopped parsley
  • 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp. Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper
  • Oil for frying

  1. Beat the mayonnaise, lemon juice, parsley, mustard, Old Bay seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, egg and salt and pepper together. Once smooth, fold in the crab meat. Fold in the breadcrumbs. Leave the mixture to chill for half an hour in the fridge.

  2. Shape the mixture into 6 crab cakes. Heat some oil in a frying pan. Brown the crab cakes until golden and crisp on either side, then transfer to a 180C oven for 10 minutes or until cooked through.

Adding some thinly sliced spring onions to the mixture for extra bite and flavour. Recipe serves 6.
