Smoky BBQ Slow Cooker Venison recipe

Preparation Time: 10 minutes | Cooking Time: 10 hours

In this simple recipe, venison is slowly cooked in a smoky BBQ sauce until soft and tender. Either slice and serve on sandwiches, or cook until really tender and falling apart, then shred and simmer in the sauce for a little longer.

  • 500g venison roast, boneless
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Oil
  • 125ml ketchup
  • 75ml beef stock
  • 4 tbsp. each Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce and BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp. malt vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp. each salt and pepper

  1. Mince onion and garlic cloves and fry in oil until soft and sweet. In a bowl, mix together the onion, garlic, ketchup, stock, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, BBQ sauce, vinegar, sugar, liquid smoke, salt and pepper.

  2. Put the venison into a slow cooker. Cover with the sauce. Cover and cook for 5-10 hours on low, until cooked to your liking.

If you can't find liquid smoke at the supermarket, use a really smoky BBQ sauce and sub a little of the ketchup for some of the BBQ. Recipe serves 4.
