Soy and Sesame Asparagus recipe

This Chinese-style asparagus dish tastes wonderful when paired with BBQ meats, such as BBQ pork or chicken. The sesame seeds add a little bit of crunch, and the sugar adds a delicious hint of sweetness.


  • 500g asparagus
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. toasted sesame oil
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. toasted sesame seeds


  1. Mince the garlic cloves. Whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic and brown sugar.

  2. Preheat a griddle pan (or regular frying pan) over a medium heat. Add the asparagus and cook for 5-8 minutes, turning regularly, until cooked to your liking and tender and slightly charred.

  3. To serve, sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds.

Add a bit of spice - try adding a glug of sweet chilli sauce to the soy mixture before cooking. Recipe serves 4.
