Apples, butter, crusty bread and spices are cooked together very slowly in a slow cooker until tender and delicious in this easy recipe. Serve with lashings of custard or vanilla ice cream.
- 375g apples, peeled, cored, chopped
- 10 thick slices white crusty bread, chopped into cubes
- 100g dark brown sugar
- 120ml butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp. each ground cinnamon and nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. salt
Spread the apples evenly over the bottom of the slow cooker.
Toss together the bread cubes, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and spread over the apples. Drizzle with butter. Cover and cook on low for 3 hours or until the apples are tender.
