Serve this spiced pear chutney alongside roasted meats or alongside your favourite curry. It really peps up any meal, and it's really easy to make too - a fantastic way to use up a bag of pears when they're a little overripe.
- 500g pears, peeled and cored
- 500g tomatoes, peeled (Boil for a minute and then leave to cool before peeling)
- 2 large onions
- 1 or 2 red chillies
- 125ml white wine vinegar
- 100g brown sugar
- 2 tsp. minced ginger
- 1/2 tsp. mustard powder
Finely dice the pears and tomatoes. Peel and finely dice the onions. Slice the chillies in half lengthways and mince finely.
Place the pears, tomatoes, onions, chillies, sugar, ginger, mustard and vinegar into a saucepan. Stir really well. Bbring to the boil then reduce to a simmer for 45-50 minutes or until thick.
Ladle into hot sterilised jars and seal.
