Spicy Tomato Salsa recipe

Mexican food uses a huge range of salsa and dips and this is just one recipe that's perfect for serving in various Mexican meals. You could also serve this very simply with some tortilla chips (take a look at our recipe for a simple way to make them at home) or heated through with some chicken. This recipe serves 16.

  • 10 spring onions
  • 5 plum tomatoes
  • 2 jalapeno chillies
  • Juice of 1/2 a lime
  • 2 tbsp. Tabasco
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Small hanful fresh coriander

  1. Seed the chillies and the tomatoes. Chop the spring onions.

  2. Place the tomatoes, onions, chillies, garlic and coriander into a blender and pulse until you've reached the desired consistency.

  3. Transfer to a bowl and mix in the lime juice, Tabasco, black pepper and salt. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

You can easily adjust the amount of heat in this recipe by adding more or less chilli depending on your personal tastes. This salsa can also be used as a sauce for food - simply heat it through and simmer for ten minutes or so to serve hot.
