Steak Chilli recipe

This tasty steak chilli dish uses few ingredients but really packs a punch of flavour. The dish is perfect for serving with some fluffy boiled rice or simply in a bowl with some warmed tortilla chips. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and dollop on some soured cream to serve.

  • 315g steak
  • 15 dried red chillies or jarred chillies in oil
  • 1 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 tbsp. smoky paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • Beef stock, as needed

  1. Finely chop the chillies. Thinly slice the onion.

  2. Heat half the oil in a large frying pan and sear the steaks. Once seared and browned, remove from the pan and set to one side.

  3. Put the rest of the oil in the pan and fry the onion for ten minutes until starting to brown.

  4. Add the chillies and tomatoes, turn the heat down low and bring to a simmer.

  5. Slice the steak into strips then put into the pan. Sprinkle with the paprika, season with salt and pepper and cover.

  6. Simmer for two hours on the lowest heat, adding beef stock if it looks too dry. Serve once the steak is tender.

To up the veggie content, try adding a few chopped peppers or courgettes. This recipe serves 2 people.
