Strawberry and Chilli Jam recipe

Preparation Time: 20 minutes | Cooking Time: 1 hours

This sweet, spicy and savoury jam is perfect served with a platter of cold meats, strong cheeses and crackers. It's a bit unusual, but one taste and you'll be hooked.


  • 300g strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 250ml sweet red wine
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. grated ginger
  • 220g dark brown soft sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 green chilli, whole
  • 1 good pinch crushed dried chilli flakes
  • 2 tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. salt


  1. Stir the strawberries and red wine together and leave to sit for 10 minutes.

  2. Add to a saucepan. Bring to the boil and once boiling, add the ginger, sugar, cinnamon, chilli, chilli flakes, cider vinegar and salt. Boil over a medium heat until thickened, stirring every 10 minutes or so. Spoon into sterilised, clean jars and then seal.

Jam will keep in a dark cupboard for up to a year if sealed properly. Recipe makes around 600g jam.
