Venison and Bacon Burgers recipe

Preparation Time: 40 minutes | Cooking Time: 20 minutes

This sweet, savoury and juicy burgers will make you wonder why you ever bought burgers from the shups. They are very, very flavourful and perfect for parties, BBQs or for an informal dinner at home. Serve them with all the trimmings.


  • 1kg minced venison (ask your butcher to mince a cut of venison for you)
  • 2 shallots
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 8 rashers smoky bacon
  • Dash of oil
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. chopped parsley
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten


  1. Chop the bacon. Finely chop the shallots and garlic. Heat a frying pan over a medium heat with a little oil and fry the bacon until golden and brown. Scoop out of the pan with a slotted spoon. Add a little bit more oil to the pan along with the shallots and garlic and fry gently until golden and sweet. Add to the bacon along with any drippings and leave to cool.

  2. Once cool, use your hands to mix together the bacon, shallot and garlic mix, minced venison, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, salt and pepper and egg until well combined. Form into 6 patties, cover and put into the fridge for 20 minutes.

  3. To cook, either fry for 5-10 minutes on either side (depending on desired doneness) or BBQ.

Add a little cheese to the centre of the burgers if you like for some extra flavour. Recipe serves 6.
